“Away We Go” is written by Chieu Anh Urban. My copy is a board book that is sturdy for little hands to explore and enjoy. This book teaches shapes and helps kids make the connections that shapes are found everywhere in the environement.
A shape is presented in the leading question. For example, “Do you see a square?” A square is shown, then there are squares in the illustration for the child to find. I love the kinesthetic qualities of this book. Since the shape is actually cut out of the board book, children can run their fingers across the edges and feel the square.

“Press Here” by Herve’ Tullet is an amazing children’s book!
I was delighted to spend last weekend with my daughter and mother. As usual, our time together included a trip to Barnes and Noble where Lydia said, “Mom, look at this cool book.”
As she began to read I said, “I’m bored already.” To which she replied, “Mom! You have to DO IT!!”
I did it and it IS a cool book!

Mailing May by Michael O.Tunnell with illustrations by Ted Rand, is one of my top ten all time favorite historical fiction children’s stories. It is based upon a true story, which makes it even more delightful. The illustrations are stunning, and include old time ‘photos’ of May’s life. An example is her photo on the front cover of the book.
